About M
M is a queer, non-binary theatre artist working across costume design, costume construction, crafts, scenic fabrication, and leatherwork. With over twenty years of experience, their practice bridges design, technical precision, and hands-on making.
They currently work as a Costume Crafts Artisan with Boston Ballet and hold a BFA in Performance Production with a focus in costume and scenic design from Cornish College of the Arts, as well as an MFA in Costume Design and Costume Technology from Illinois State University. Through their professional and academic work, M developed a deep passion for teaching and is committed to educating and inspiring the next generation of theatre artists.
Outside the studio, M creates custom leather goods through Stormy Leather Co., exploring traditional techniques and contemporary design. They also find inspiration in nature, creating art from collected and repurposed materials. This work lives somewhere between memento mori and vulture culture, honoring transformation, impermanence, and the beauty of what is left behind.
